wrote Shakespeare and Buzz can’t agree more.

– A boy about her age is named Om. In Buzz’s world he is called ‘Home’

– We call a very good friend of ours at work, Ballu. Buzz and I were heading to his house one weekend so I told her ‘Ballu uncle ke ghar jaa rahe hein’*. Since then she calls him ‘Balloon uncle’. Him having 3 balloons in his house that she played with did not help the case any.

– I was reading a book to Buzz. The book is about 2 toddlers Mike and Jenny and a baby named Sue. No matter how many times we correct her and how clearly we pronounce her name the baby according to Buzz is named ‘Baby Soup’. She is seen trying to correct us vehemently when we say Sue over and over again.

Guess Shakespeare had it right all those years back.

*we are going to Ballu uncle’s house.

  6. but ballu does sound like balloon and Sue does sound like soup and oh is often spoken as Home in the R household..so a name is a name is a name as you hear it

    way to go Buzz! this is the way poetry is written…words get twisted and then it emerges into poetry 😉

  8. There is a thirukural(like kabir’s doha) that says “there are people who will call the flute pleasant, or the veena pleasant, but those are people who haven’t heard a child speak in baby tongue”. Reminded of that!

  14. Lol. This reminded me of something. As a kid, I would often hear people saying or chanting “Hari Om”, and I always wondered why so many people kept saying “Hurry Home”..

  25. Hi Comfy, been reading you a while but my first comment here. This was so cute of buzz ! How we all wish that this phase would last longer, no ? They grow up too soon.
    My 3 year old son has a teached called Vilma in his daycare. For reasons unknown, he has decided her name is Ms. Grandma. He calls her that (she and others are amused) and when I try to correct him, he tells me “Amm, no Ms Vilma, it is Ms. Grandma” !

  30. Very often Kids pronounce a name in “TOTALI BOLI”, which sounds quite different , but is always very soothing for years.

    Remember a name is most important word for any body, named person always wishes to hear it correctly, he always expects correct phonetic sound of his / her name, ask yourself Do you??

    1. I agree with you Santosh but for now she is still a kid and it is OK. I bet with time she will correct herself and none of this will happen.

  31. hehehe soo cute!!I remember Babushka used to call one of my friends Paneer Mama.. His name is Pani!LOL! its so cute to hear kids talk!! even now,we dont correct Babs,coz its just so cute to hear it like that!!
